Description
Solar (PV) PanelGuard is a revolutionary solar panel treatment for use on domestic and industrial scale installations to repel bird droppings and contamination, whist increasing energy generation through light absorption.
Solar (PV) PanelGuard Performance:
- Performance – Hydrophilic dirt repellent properties and extremely durable. Increases light transmission of panels by 2.5% by reducing the amount of light lost through reflection (which can be up to 4% of the light hitting the panel at right-angles); whilst reduction in contamination will typically lead to an increase in energy yield of 6-7%. - Environmentally friendly – fluorine free
- Protects against environmental pollution from windblown dirt, dust and traffic pollution
- Protects against damage caused by uric acid from bird droppings
- UV stable
- Simple spray and polish application
- Quick-dry functionality and water resistant after 24 hrs
- Hydrophilic repellent performance
- Does not peel or flake
Solar (PV) PanelGuard Benefits:
- Light reflection is reduced leading to increases in transmittance by up to 2.5%
- Increasing efficiency through reduction in environmental pollution
- Weekly or monthly cleaning schedules are extended
- Can be manually applied to new or existing panels
- Long term easy-clean non-stick performance
Hazards
Danger
H225 Highly flammable liquid and vapour
H319 Causes serious eye irritation
P210 Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking
P240 Ground and bond container and receiving equipment
P305 + P351 + P338 IF IN EYE: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
P337 +P313 If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention
P403 +P235 Store in well-ventilated place. Keep cool.
P501 Dispose of contents /container in accordance with national regulation.
Application Instructions
1) Use Pre-Clean
2) Apply liquid to the glass surface using trigger spray, thoroughly polish-in with application cloth until the surface is dry and free of visible streaks.
3) The coating is waterproof after 1 hour and fully cured after 24 hours.
Use a clean lint-free cloth for application and wear gloves

Site Details
- 146kWp solar field with 289 modules
- Coordinates: 28°53°24.9″S, 31°28°20.1″E
- Season: Autumn/Winter > increasingly reduced radiation angle and decrease in sunshine duration in the course of the trial (starting May dry season > during trial period scarcely or neglectable rainfall)
- 2 PV-switching circuit à 17 modules (No. 4 and No. 6), adjacent and geometrically without interruption daily solar radiation.
Untreated/Control Panel Performance
Basic performance test in April/May resulted in the following initial values:

String 6 (uncoated) |
Difference in performance 4 to 6 |
April 23 – May 27 (35 days) |

Natural difference in performance based on PV technical reasons.
Treated Panel Performance
- An application of Solar (PV) PanelGuard was done on the 27th May, 2022.
The following results were obtained over a measurement period of 35 days:
Period 2022 |
String 4 (coated) |
String 6 (uncoated) |
Difference in performance 4 to 6 |
May 28 – July 1 (35 days) |
25,221.24 |
24,960.65 |
1.04 % |
The reduced performance results from seasonal circumstances (see above). However, it is interesting to see that the natural difference in performance is now reversed.

This increase achieved by the application of Solar (PV) PanelGuard on a solar plant of this size is not to be neglected and may result in a difference of 900 kWh per month (without rain).
N.B. The above indicated measurement results are the sum of average performance values, determined every half hour, but cannot be equalized with the energy yield.
