The damage water ingress can cause to building structures has come to the fore over the last couple of weeks – along with the general public being alerted that building materials have a ‘functional life span’! This can be a hard concept to grasp when much of the built infrastructure in the UK dates back tens or even hundreds of years.
With good maintenance, quick repair and regular upkeep the oldest and most recent buildings remain fit for purpose and may age gracefully for decades to come. A solidly protected building delivers extended durability, requiring less restoration and renewal – meaning less effort, cost and unnecessary use of building resources. Even post construction it maybe feasible to undertake restorative or preventative measures in the form of retro applied coating systems to prevent water ingress and structural damage and deterioration.
Avoiding serious structural damage to buildings.
No building can avoid structural wear and tear from the elements. Specific areas of structural concern which our product address are :-
Corrosion of reinforcing bars
Reinforcing steel bars are used in concrete and make an essential contribution to stability. However, if they are exposed to corrosion, the stability of the concrete will be compromised. Efflorescence
Is the process of material salts and minerals separating and leaching from concrete surfaces and structures – it’s caused by a combination of humidity/moisture ingress and chemical attrition. Our products prevent efflorescence through their hydrophobic repellence which prevents salts from being washed out from the surface.
Salt blasting
Salt blasting occurs when salt crystals deposit on a building substrate, thus causing corrosion damage. Our coatings prevent surface damage through their strong chemical resistance and prevent salt-blast from occurring.
Frost/road salt damage
Frost (freeze/thaw) salt damage occurs as soon as road salt is sprayed in winter – and subsequently penetrates concrete. Our coatings prevent surface damage through their hydrophobic protection of absorbent ground level surfaces which prevents frosting and chemical attack from alkaline salts.
Damage caused by acid rain
Acid rain may attack the building fabric and cause damage. Multiple hydrophobic products within the range provide an acid resistant finish on all porous mineral surfaces.
Algae, moss, mould and other contaminates
Algae, moss, and mould may attack building fabric and affect its appearance and integrity through loosening mortars etc. Our products create a low energy. non-stick surface on a molecular level which prevents spores of algae, moss, and mould from adhering to the substrate – thus protecting facades against contamination and consequent maintenance and repair costs.
Graffiti and fly posting
Graffiti and fly posting may seriously affect the appearance and aesthetics of buildings. Our building protection products create a permanent non-stick barrier which prevents fly posters and graffiti from sticking to the surface.
