Nano-Care develops coating system for water and oil repellence that aims to revolutionise textile finishing.
Nano-Care, an internationally leading specialist in the production of ready-to-use high-tech coatings and their precursors, is pleased to announce that it now offers a ground-breaking coating system for water and oil repellence that is poised to redefine standards across the textile finishing industry.
The company took it upon itself to develop an alternative to the C8 fluorocarbon technology (C8-PFC), which will be banned in 2023 due to its emissions of PFOS and PFOA. Aiming to fill in the significant gap in the textile finishing market that will be created as a result of the abandonment of C8-PFC, and which is valued at hundreds of millions of pounds, Nano-Care developed Nanoflex F-Bond, a special silicon dioxide backbone based on liquid concentrates which can be applied using conventional industrial dipping methods.
Nano-Care UK’s new system achieves the same performance level in washing stability and repellence, offering the most eco-friendly and cost-effective solution for work safety clothing; military clothing; automotive textiles, and medical applications. At the time of writing, the military, work-wear and health sectors have temporary permissions to use C8-PFC ahead of its complete banning, and as such a technological alternative has been characterized as not only a necessity, but also a leap towards achieving ecological sustainability in the textile industry as a whole.
Oliver Sonntag, Nano-Care AG Group CEO said “Our company is proud to have taken the first steps to achieve stain and oil repellence, otherwise known hydrocarbon and chemical repellence, using PFC-free chemicals, in accordance with ZHDC and Greenpeace recommendations. We are continuing with research and development to achieve this goal.”
Nano-Care UK will also be offering a version of this new system with room temperature curing and antimicrobial properties.
