Based on current trends, homeowners update their bathrooms cosmetically roughly every four-five years. However, based on the lifetime of bathroom fixtures and fittings, they may in fact change their bathtub or shower system every 15-20 years.
The challenge to homeowners is, how can they maintain the new look and feel of their bathroom long after its installation?
Water beading down a shower screen is often used in brochures to sell the look and performance of new showers, but how can homeowners maintain this easy-clean repellent performance…?, .. as nothing dates a shower like limescale and soap scum build-up.
Fortunately this hydrophobic easy-clean function can easily be reapplied to shower screens and glazed tiles by using nano-coatings. Having been used throughout a wide range of industries for 40 years, they smooth out the microscopic peaks and troughs of the substrate surface (untreated surfaces which may feel smooth to the touch, look very different when looked at under an electron microscope) with a liquid-glass-like finish.
The benefit of this finish is that every day dirt, oil and grease build-ups are prevented as the coating repels contamination. By creating a super smooth hydrophobic and oleophobic surface, the coating protects from:
- Limescale and soap scum staining
- Scratches – no need to use abrasive cleaners and cloths
- Adhesion of dirt – urine scold
Nanoflex Optiperl
Nano-coatings, such as Optiperl, optimise hydrophobic quality to ensure that dirt particles rarely adhere to the coated substrate. If they do, they are very easily removed, without the need for harsh or abrasive cleaning agents, thus reducing water usage during cleaning. A simple wipe down with a rubber blade is recommend to remove any residual droplets.
Optiperl is ideal for use on many bathroom surfaces:
- Bathroom mirrors
- Glazed ceramic surfaces (tiles)
- Shower screens
- Ceramic bathtubs
Optiperl is available as a home retail kit – Showerguard™ – and is easy to apply, see the application video below.
For those concerned about the hand-surface-hand transfer of bathroom bacteria, perhaps due to having a compromised immunity or other underlying health issues, there is a long term antimicrobial nano-coating – Liquid Guard®, which is a self-disinfecting wipe-on glass treatment that ensures all surfaces stay clean.
Not only does it repel liquids and dirt as well as preventing micro scratches, it boasts an antimicrobial function that kills viral and bacterial pathogens that come into contact with surfaces, thus reducing the spread of coughs and colds at home and in the community.
Nano-coatings can either be applied to equipment as part of the production process or on-site as a spray on finish, with home care kits available for homeowner to top-up. They are easily applied with either manual “spray and buff” or automated equipment.
To see and discuss these advanced nano-coatings, along with the rest of the Nano-Care range, come along and have a chat at KBB 6th-9th March on Stand 106.
